A friendly, secure walk-through to get your Trézor device out of the box and protecting your crypto — with clear steps, safety tips, and troubleshooting.
Safety note: Never share your recovery seed or private key with anyone. Trézor staff or legitimate support will never ask for it.
When you open the package, check the tamper seals and plastic wrapping. The device should be clean, free of damage, and match the model you ordered (Tézor Model One, Model T, etc.). If anything looks suspicious, contact the vendor before powering on.
Power up the device by connecting it with the supplied cable to your computer. Visit trézor.io/start — make sure the URL is spelled correctly and uses HTTPS. The official web start page will guide you to the correct Trezor Suite or web app for your model.
Tip: Prefer using a fresh browser profile or a browser you use for security-sensitive tasks to avoid extension interference. Disable unnecessary browser extensions while setting up.
Trezor Suite is the official companion app that helps you initialize your device, install firmware, manage accounts, and sign transactions. Download it from the official site linked at the start page — verify the domain and certificate before installing.
Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new wallet. The device will generate a recovery seed (usually 12, 18, or 24 words). Write these words down on the recovery card provided — do not photograph or store them digitally.
If your computer doesn't detect the device: try a different cable, a different USB port, or another computer. Make sure the device screen shows the prompt to connect to Trezor Suite. Restarting the computer can also help.
If a firmware update fails, do not share your recovery seed. Reconnect and retry the official installer from the start page. If problems persist, contact official Trezor support with images of the error and device state (but never your seed).
Trezor supports optional passphrases that can create hidden wallets. This adds an extra layer of security (and complexity). Use passphrases only if you fully understand the tradeoffs: if you forget the passphrase you lose access to that wallet — the seed plus passphrase are both needed.
A: The device itself generates the seed offline. However, to install software and firmware you will usually need an internet connection. The initial seed generation does not rely on an online server.
A: Losing the recovery seed is equivalent to losing access to funds if the device is lost or destroyed. If you lose it and still have the device, create a new wallet and back up its seed immediately.
A: Use official channels linked at the start page. Never trust support requests that ask for your seed or private keys. Legitimate support may ask for device screenshots, model, and firmware version but not for secret material.
